India’s work engages with the partnership of art and science, drawing on recent discoveries in particle and astro physics whilst contemplating their place in popular perception. She employs technical practices such as domestic handicraft and techniques of religious iconography; traditional artistic methods with strong associations to ritual and existential comfort in the face of uncertainty. This transition from the celestial arena to a terrestrial setting brings a tangibility to concepts that exist in the boundaries between the imaginary and the real, giving the unfathomable a human scale. Through the absurd and salient qualities of metaphor she converts a cool abstract understanding of indigestible theoretical physics into something visual and alive and whilst doing so her work performs a heuristic exploration into the human consumption of knowledge, belief and believability.
