Ian Bruce (b. London 1984)
Lives/Works in London, UK
Bruce specialises in drawing and oil painting with a sway towards portraiture. He consistently plays with the absence and presence of people in their surroundings while developing a long lasting love affair with paint. RubiCANE (an anagram of IanBRUCE) is the name he has adopted for his pornographic work.
Walking down Shaftesbury Avenue Ian found that in every phone box the Sex Cards had been ripped up and thrown to the floor. He decided to put a pair of them back together, a small act of post iconoclastic restoration of a depleting form of sex worker advertising.
There is a certain irony in the fact that the artist has taken so much care and time in soft and hard ground etching, aquatinting, inking and printing an image that was collaged together with little or no thought to graphic design.
